Steve Jobs

Michael Sheets:
There will be a public alpha release this year, before Christmas, for registered users.
Is there a more popular text editor for OS X than TextMate? Exactly half of all the Sweet Mac Setup interviewees use TextMate.

- The screen is better, brighter and bigger than on previous devices.
- It’s thin, but not iPhone-thin.
- The OEM’s Android skin isn’t awesome, but in some places, it could be.
- The new launcher comes with lots of widgets that do things.
- 4G is cool, unless you like battery life. But damn, those 28 seconds of browsing are fast!
- The camera software still sucks. Also, FRONT-FACING CAMERA! Note: This can be swapped for “3-D!!!!” if the review requires it.
- While Android is open, there’s lots of crapware on this phone. Hello, VZContact Manager FREE!
- This may be the best Android phone yet, but if not, just wait a week or two.
- The current version of Android lacks some polish, but the next version of Android will be the one to have, we promise. It’s going to rival iOS. Granted, this phone probably won’t ever get to run it.
Sweet update to one of my very favorite iPhone apps.

I’m going to publish a personal site using static html for both blog and a few gallery pages and I want to use ftp to publish the site. So I ran a quick test on witch ftp-client I should use.
From the top of my head I could name Transmit, Flow and Cyberduck.
Transmit
Upload: 1:02m
Delete: 0:06m
Site check: Everything seems fine.
Price: $33.99 in the Mac App Store or from their site.
Flow
Upload: DNF
Delete: DNF
Site check: Site looked like rubbish.
Price: $30 from their site.
Cyberduck
Upload: 1:24
Delete: 0:36
Site check: Everything seems fine.
Price: Donation- / nagware ($23.99 in the Mac App Store).
Conclusion
Flow is totally useless. I haven’t been able to upload a full version of my site once with this app which, to be honest, is a shame since it looks great and is easy to use.
So the question is whether you want to fork over the $34 to use the nice clean (fast!) Transmit or you can live with Cyberducks Tiger-like inteface for casual uploading.
Addendum: I actually wanted to use cli ftp, but found that it didn’t support multiple files and directories, so it would bo overly complicated – for me at least – to script my way out of that.
If you’re only reading one piece on Jobs retirement, read this from MG Siegler.
This fall is shaping up to be a great first act for Cook. All set up by the timing of Jobs’ resignation. The only real question is: is it Cook or Jobs that takes the stage at their event next month to announce these things? Will it be a “hello” or a “goodbye”?
But only thinking about the fall is thinking small. It’s the longer roadmap that should really be the grand finale in the Jobs’ fireworks show.
Talking to sources in recent months, there has been one common refrain: that the things Apple is working on right now are the best things the company has ever done. These are things that will “blow your mind”, I’ve been told.
[...]
It’s a bit odd to think about the day after Steve Jobs retires as CEO of Apple, but what if when he says “Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it”, it’s not just a platitude? What if he’s saying it because, like other Apple employees, he knows what’s coming?
And what’s coming is Jobs’ final “one more thing…”, as it were. It may not be him on stage to present these things, but I have faith that the products won’t be any less great. We’ll just have to see for ourselves instead of instinctively trusting Jobs’ sales pitch.
Seriously. Read it.
One stick man to another:
- You should join Google+!
- What is it?
- Not Facebook!
- What’s it like?
- Facebook!
…
- Oh, what the hell. I guess that’s all I really wanted.
…when we fell in love”. With a brand new computing device?
The iPhone’s retail debut was on June 29, 2007 — four years ago today. Its large touch screen isn’t novel anymore, but was revolutionary then. For example, here are three smartphones what were white-hot in 2007
Really can’t describe how revolutionary this device was. Just take a look at the pictures of the competition!
As an idea this looks very promising. But it needs a critical mass to work – and in Denmark that is probably not happening…
